Functional Aesthetic Nose Job
Aesthetic nose job, medically called rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure that leads to a change in the shape of the nose.
It can be part of a series of combined operations that correct functional nasal disorders, but it can also be an operation performed for aesthetic reasons only.
Aesthetics is about how we perceive the concept of beauty.
I think it would be right to start this topic with the lexical meaning of beauty. Beauty is the state of a living being, a concrete object, or an abstract concept that evokes a sense of pleasure and satisfaction in perception. In fact, it is a transcendent concept. A trigger that initiates transmission in our sense organs.
For example, can all beauties be seen with the eyes?
Is it a concept that can be limited and formed?
No matter how much I think about it, I cannot limit beauty. I am aware that there is a very wide spectrum in my mind regarding this concept. This makes my work both easier and more difficult. I often feel that the dilemma of perceiving beauty in people causes them to change. Or it’s a case of the spectrum of beauty in their minds. Perhaps it is variable, a person’s environment, their surroundings, their jobs, their relationships and, of course, the time… the main factors that shape the concepts. But time… Time, how cruel and instructive you are. Time is indeed a feeling and not a series of numbers that flow as taught. Time is a dimension. Of course, the implications of such a broad concept for us are also quite large.
Just as time can change all the thoughts in our head, it can also change the perception of beauty that we create in our head. What looked good yesterday can look bad today. The concept of beauty can change based on where we look, how we look, and even how long we look at it. If you look at something deeply enough to see the smallest details, you will begin to see both the ugly and the beautiful side. The more people examine their faces, the more faults they will find in themselves. It is a matter of how much time one invests. It is obvious how much we can look in the mirror and take care of ourselves in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, I think we all felt that most clearly during the pandemic lockdown. During the lockdown, we were able to come back to ourselves and actually focus on how to make ourselves happier. Many became interested in their face, their body, their personality traits. Some added new features and hobbies they wanted to do to themselves, while others were more interested in the areas of their face they wanted to change and decided because they had more time to make a decision.
In fact, we have all realized how important health is. We have understood how important it is to be able to breathe. The breath… the beginning of life, the beginning of respiration, the beginning of smelling, the beginning of enjoying food… it would indeed be a long article to describe how important the nose is.
The nose, in my opinion, is the gateway to our inner world… Do not think that I am saying this because it is my branch, it definitely is not. Life begins with breathing, proper breathing begins with the nose. Those who have functional nasal problems know very well how tired and exhausted we become and how much our quality of life decreases when we cannot breathe through the nose. We all have felt this with the smallest upper respiratory infection we ever had. At that time, we could not smell or taste the food, and even our sleep was unhealthy and inadequate. Imagine that this is the case all the time, that’s how it is when you have functional nasal problems, you have trouble breathing all the time, but you think it’s normal. However, you will realize what it means to breathe properly when an improvement is achieved through surgery.
Functional nasal problems can sometimes be related only to the interior of the nose, sometimes they are caused by disorders in the nasal dorsum, and sometimes both problems occur together. In such cases, we, otolaryngologists, are the ones who will find a solution to your problem.
In my medical practice, I have seen that these problems coexist in most of my patients. But, of course, there are many patients who have only aesthetic concerns and no nasal airway problems, and patients who have only nasal airway problems but no aesthetic problems.
When there are both functional problems and aesthetic concerns, it is very important for patients to resolve both problems in a single procedure in the postoperative period. If the patient continues to live with a nose that has problems with the nasal airway after an aesthetic surgery that was performed out of fear of aesthetics, they will greatly regret it. In fact, the surgery that was enjoyed will lead to a reduction in the quality of life. This problem can be solved by a detailed preoperative examination. The nose is not only an aesthetic organ and this should never be forgotten. I think that this is also important for the concept of beauty, because beauty is not only something that can be perceived with the eyes, but it should also appeal to all our senses.
Therefore, I urge our valued patients who are considering aesthetic rhinoplasty not to make hasty decisions and to personally contact the doctor with whom they are to have surgery and conduct a personal examination with him or her. Of course, seeing on social media is an unavoidable fact when it comes to seeing the doctor’s surgery style and work, but remember that this is not the only truth. Regardless of which doctor you choose, think carefully about surgical plans, whether there is a problem in the medial wall of the nasal cavity, the concha, or even the sinuses. There is always a chance for a second surgery, but the second surgery will always be more difficult than the first one, you should always keep that in mind.
I wish you beautiful and functional noses that breathe well and make your life more pleasant and quality…
