Otoplasty (Cosmetic Ear Surgery)
Protruding ear is one of the congenital malformations. It can be unilateral or bilateral. It is a problem that can lead to a lack of self-confidence in the social environment even at a young age. It can be corrected by a surgical procedure called otoplasty.
The procedure can be performed under general or local anesthesia. A small incision is made at the back of the ear to remove excess skin and cartilage, if any, and special suturing techniques are used to reshape the ears to the correct size and new shape. The procedure takes approximately 1-2 hours. Generally, it is appropriate for the patient to stay in the hospital for 1 day after the procedure. After discharge, at least 3 days of rest is recommended.
